In 2010, Fibertek moved into its new 50,000 sq. ft. facility consisting of offices, conference rooms, and 23,000 sq. ft. of laboratory space for laser, electro-optics, and electronics research, development, and fabrication. Fibertek’s facility includes 37 fully-equipped optical/laser labs with 10,000 sq. ft. and 3,000 sq. ft. of NASA Standard Class 10,000 and 1,000 space, respectively, and some NASA Standard Class 100 work zones. The optical labs use a facility-wide air-handling system with over-pressurization for contamination control.
Fibertek has five electronics labs, two wet labs, an optical receiver lab, chemical lab, and a printed circuit board (PCB) assembly lab. The labs contain optical tables, flow-hoods, gas handling systems, and flow-benches. Fibertek performs in-house PCB assembly with NASA-certified assemblers and layout engineers. Fibertek is also equipped with two environmental testing labs, and has three vacuum test chambers.
Fibertek’s state-of-the-art engineering design capability incorporates ProEngineer™ parametric 3D solid-modeling and design tool, with integrated ANSYS finite-element analysis. Laser design is supported by advanced optical modeling using GLAD, TracePro and Zeemax optical design software, COMSOL Multi-physics finite-element tool and Matlab. An extensive set of in-house modeling tools for the design of solid-state lasers, fiber lasers, lidar, and electro-optical systems is also available.
A fully integrated Product Life-Cycle Management (PLM) approach is implemented for all lasers manufactured in the facility. An integrated software application tool is used to establish, monitor, and ensure that all production practices conform to PLM processes. Material management is performed for full traceability of production lasers produced in the facility. The manufacturing processes are ISO 9001:2015 certified.
